The first reading, in which the prophet Amos condemns those who cheat and exploit the poor, challenges abuse of power and economic injustice. God’s concern is for fairness, especially how the vulnerable are treated. Psalm 113 emphasizes God’s care for those who are lowly or poor; and those who trust in God will be exalted. So I invite you to get a cup of coffee and a donut then visit with our ministry leaders and volunteers to learn more about the concrete ways we can align our lives more with Jesus’ call to love and serve God above anything else. Let us be even more diligent in planning for eternal life—by serving God wholeheartedly, living justly, praying for all, and caring for the poor.
