Each person’s journey of faith is different, therefore the path and “time-line” for preparing for sacraments varies with the needs of each person.
The sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (Communion) are called sacraments of initiation because we become members of the Catholic Church through them. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the gradual process by which adults (18+) prepare for and celebrate the sacraments of initiation. Those baptized in a Christian tradition other than Catholic are also received into full communion with the Catholic Church through the Rite.
The first step in becoming a Catholic is to meet with the parish Initiation Coordinator. At this meeting, the individual or family inquiring into the Catholic Church will be warmly received, questions will be answered, and particular needs will be assessed. Each person’s journey of faith is different, therefore the path and “time-line” for preparing for initiation varies with the needs of each person.
