The root of prayer is interior silence and Centering Prayer is a method of silent, contemplative prayer designed to deepen one’s relationship with God by resting in his presence beyond words, thoughts, or emotions. Unlike petitionary prayer, it is not about asking for specific outcomes but about being present to God and consenting to his action within. It emphasizes intention over attention, using a sacred word as a gentle anchor to return to whenever the mind wanders. Although formalized in the 20th century by figures like Thomas Keating, Centering Prayer draws on centuries of Christian contemplative tradition and Scripture.

​Beginning October 6, our Lectio practice will include the reading of Keating's book, God is Love, The Heart of All Creation, described as “a conversation with Thomas Keating and Carl Arico."
