High School to 29ish
Rehearsals Tuesday evenings
6:00 - 7:30pm
There are occasional changes/exceptions, communicated ahead of time.
We sing for the 11:00am Sunday Liturgy.
We also sing for special events away from Padre Serra. We sing in four-part harmony (SATB). Would you like to be a part of the PSP Youth Choir “One Voice”? We have openings, especially for young men! What are we looking for?
Auditions are held for voice placement and/or solo opportunities. To find out if you and the Youth Choir would be a good fit, arrange a vocal check (about 15 minutes) with the director: Liturgy & Music Minister Dominic MacAller (805) 482 · 6417 x327 [email protected] The Choir’s Roles/Ministries
The primary role of the choir is to support the singing of the entire assembly at the liturgy in the worship of our loving God. The choir’s secondary role is to sing choral music for the assembly, creating beauty and the opportunity for listening, rejoicing and reflection. Another minor but important role of the choir is to perform in concerts which can evangelize the community and provide an opportunity to give the gift of beauty and joy. Our ministry comes from our call as baptized members of the Body of Christ. Another important part of our ministry is to be caring and supportive of one another. Many friendships have begun in and been deepened and strengthened by participation in the ministry of the Youth Choir.
LiturgiesOn most Sundays the Youth Choir sings at the 11:00 AM liturgy. Members are expected to be in the music area by 10:30 AM to allow time for warm-up, preparation, and sound check. There are occasional changes/exceptions, communicated ahead of time.

AttendanceThe minimum attendance expected for continuing membership in the Youth Choir is 80% of all services (rehearsals, liturgies, concerts), averaged over time. Consistent attendance is especially important at rehearsals because we rely on the cumulative effect of several rehearsals for much of the music we sing. In other words, it is not merely a case of “rehearsing this Sunday’s music on this Thursday”.
It may be helpful to think of the Youth Choir as a team sport and the director as the coach. If a team member who plays a certain position (sings a certain voice part) is absent from a practice, then the team (the choir) will be less prepared for the game (ministry at liturgy) and the experience of the other team members will not be as positive as it should be. Youth Choir members are expected to make a serious commitment to this ministry and to miss only for the most serious reasons (like contagious illness). CommunicationFrom you:
Please let me know by e-mail [email protected] or phone call (805) 482·6417 ext.327 if you have to miss any services, as far ahead of time as possible. Also, let me know what I can do to make your experience with the Youth Choir a positive one. To you: We will provide a schedule attached of all our services through the end of this ministry year. We will also send out weekly music ministry e-mails with schedule reminders, music lineups for the coming weekend and other useful information. Occasionally we will send messages via Facebook, or cell phone texts. |
