Moving Beyond the Minimum Requirement​

Dear friends on the journey,

At the heart of today’s readings is a powerful truth: God desires not only our obedience, but our hearts. They serve as a reminder us that following God is about more than outward observance—it is about the transformation of the heart. Jesus tells us that righteousness is not limited to avoiding wrongdoing, but calls us to reconciliation, integrity, and love in our daily lives. We are invited to move beyond a “minimum requirement” approach to faith and into a deeper, more loving relationship with God.

Jesus teaches that obeying
the law means more than just avoiding sin. We must also avoid anger, dishonesty, and selfishness. Faith is not just about rules but about living
in a way that brings love and justice. Jesus wants us to follow the law because we love God and others, not just because we have to. This week, we should ask ourselves if we are only following rules or truly living God’s teachings in our hearts. Which of Jesus’ teachings do you find most challenging
and why? What does it mean to follow the spirit of the law and not just the letter of the law? What steps can you take to grow in love, wisdom, and truth?big difference?
